This thing they call work

Yesterday I got the opportunity to go to the IMAX and science centre in Glasgow with Dalmellington primary school. We had a brilliant day.

I got to go with the whole of P5. I usually only take my few wee cherubs on a Tuesday. I know most of the class but it was great just seeing them so excited about science and technology, things I can explain to them and get interested about. It was like Christmas for me with so may gadgets and science all around.

As I started to reflect and think on what I was seeing, it was so different. The young people I work with were lost. They were away from familiar things and were so quite. As I observed this it was strange for me to see them like that. They are usually the very opposite to this. Many of these young people don't leave the village much, don't have treats like the cinema and holidays. So it's all new to them.

It made me think of the different lives they lead. That God has so much more planned for them, if they get the chance. That they don't need to follow on and be the next generation in the village that have no future.

I had some great conversations with them all yesterday, I love that just being there and getting to know them all so much more just opens up lots of things to talk about.  I am so glad we were not going today. The weather is dreadful and schools have been cancelled.

So things are going well here. As we get ready for the mad Christmas season of plays, trips, parties, events and services. I'll be well ready for two weeks holidays.

Til next time.
